I constructed an online store for www.crossroadstamp.com using the simple proprietary script provided by his web hosting service. The process entailed inserting (and tweaking) header and footer code so that the store would match the www.crossroadstamp.com website, adjusting the store settings (after reading the lengthy manual and experimenting with the script and its control panel), and showing the owner how to upload his inventory, including the images, after sending him a synopsis of the store manual’s instructions.

Crawlable Facebook Comments on WordPress

Tonight I installed the WordPress Facebook Comments and Crawlable Facebook Comments plugins on Costfreehost.com. I placed the php shortcodes in the templates, adjusted the Crawlable Facebook Comments CSS file, and added a couple tweaks to the website’s code.

The Crawlable Facebook Comments plugin puts the content of the Facebook comments into the WordPress posts’ source code so that the text and the Facebook profile links are spidered and indexed by Google, Bing, Yahoo and the other search engines.

I built the Milestone Partners website (they supplied the graphics and the verbal content). Their graphic designer sent me the written content (the words, sentences, and paragraphs for the various webpages) and his Photoshop mockups (his PSD images) of what the website would look like in the end. And he created the artwork. Then I built the actual online presence, the actual website: I coded the CSS (the style sheet) and the HTML and formatted the content and the artwork. Note the built-in scroll bars on the right-hand side of every webpage.

The COO of NYC’s Executive Video — www.execvid.com — part of the JSDC, LLC Portfolio of companies, had me update the homepage, specifically the top conference box (and top banner), the featured video, and a few links and PDFs. He also had me add the scroller containing his current clients’ logos and make a few changes to a couple inner pages. I had one of my graphic designer/artistic director colleagues make the changes to the conference box, since the original PSD files for that portion of www.execvid.com were not available. Then I made the necessary adjustments to the CSS so that the overlapping images (with links) continued to align properly.

The job was somewhat involved — tricky — since the previous developer had hard-coded most of the homepage content in files that were not readily evident. I had to use FTP to manually search multiple files and folders for the ones that had the HTML code that needed changing. The site’s backbone is written in PHP, and normally the content would update dynamically from input at the CMS dashboard/controls, but like I said, the previous developer ignored the dynamic PHP and instead hard-coded homepage HTML in what functionally amounted to “hidden” files that were not evident/visible in execvid.com’s online backend dashboard/control panel.

Also, the site uses multiple CSS files, which means I had to search through a few of those files for the CSS styles that needed changing.

I created the affiliate marketing site www.affiliatebin.com (Make Money Online: Top Dollar Affiliate Programs) by substantially customizing a free theme/template for the Drupal CMS. (Find out more about the functionality at www.drupal.com.) I also helped monetize www.affiliatebin.com, which is doing quite well with a growing list of email newsletter subscribers — 1748 email readers at this time.

That’s the beauty of free themes: you can change their design to the point that they’re your own.
